Ho-ly bantha.. I wanted to hold off on all Star Wars hype until the game actually came out but I couldn’t help myself after seeing these new trailer leaks come out. If you have not seen it yet, go ahead and do yourself a favor and scroll down to watch it.
As we all know, the last Star Wars game that was published by EA was a bit of a mess. Hero tokens spawning at random, pay to win weapons, $50 DLC, no campaign and matchmaking that was rather a joke. Ultimately there was a major balancing issue (something that has been more common in these AAA title games as of late). It seems to be that it was nothing but for EA to capitalize on the title and make money off of it. But as you would expect, that got a lot, and I mean a lot, of backlash. For that reason alone I didn’t want to say anything about the game. This however, looks really good. Almost, too good to be true.. Probably is since it is EA we’re talking about but that is a whole other topic. Let’s talk about what we saw in the leak.
Some of the very first words that come about in the trailer are “Form up on Red Five“. In case anyone doesn’t know, Red 5 is the callsign Pedrin Gaul used during the battle of Scarif and then later Luke Skywalker in the battle of Yavin. We later then hear Luke Skywalker talk to R2-D2 so we know that this is the Red 5 from the ‘A New Hope’ era. You could also hear a pilot saying “Right behind you, Po” shortly before. At 00:37 we get a Venator-class Star Destroyer accompanied by a fleet of ARC-170 Starfighters and V-Wings. So it’s safe to say that space battles will take place across all episodes and we will be able to play a certain hero or villain piloting their special ship. We even see Master Yoda manning, what appears to be, one of the turrets on the millennium falcon.. WHAT?! Also, during the alpha, the republics hero to play as was Rey and the Trade Federations villain was Darth Maul. So going off of that, I think it’s safe to say we could mix up the heroes and villains from any episode during space battles as well. Speaking of Darth Maul, he also makes an appearance in the trailer piloting the Scimitar, also known as the Sith Infiltrator! His appearance is pretty grand as well.
Here is a list of all the other ships we found in the trailer:
- Tie Fighters
- Darth Vader’s Advanced Tie Fighter
- Vulture Droids
- Millennium Falcon
- Imperial Star Destroyer
- Lucrehulk-class Droid Control Ship
- Actis-class Interceptor (Jedi Starfighter)
- Slave-1 (it flies by quick, can you see it?)
Here is a list of all the levels found in the trailer:
- The Unknown Regions – Resurgent Star Destroyer
- Endor – Death Star Debris
- Fondor – Imperial Shipyard
- Ryloth – Lucrehulk Battleship
- Kamino – Research Outpost
Phew! That was a lot! Unfortunately the trailer does not show anything about boarding an enemy Star Destroyers so I don’t think we’ll get that back from the originals. But hey, at least we have this! This is a step up from the last installment and it looks to be heading in the right direction. As someone who got to play the alpha, the game is great! Feels great, plays great and there is a lot to unlock and work for unlike the last pay-to-win game. It’s essentially what Battlefield is now and I’m perfectly okay with that. It fits good with Star Wars. Remember, this is a reboot, not a remake! We will all find out how good this is soon enough however but for now, enjoy the trailer!
